HIKING IN SOUTH TYROL
DISCOVER THE TRAILS OF THE VAL PASSIRIA
The wide range of hiking trails includes simple trails such as the Riffianer Waalweg to excursions to the Hohe Wilde mountain in the Texelgruppe Nature Park. Hikers who prefer easy paths, walk along the waterways or take the cable cars to alpine pastures and huts. For experienced mountaineers, the hiking holiday in the Val Passiria offers varied summit tours in the Sarentino and Ötztal Alps. A special highlight for families is the new hiking trail through the Passerschlucht gorge. A hike along the Passeirer Höhenweg, one of the most beautiful panoramic hikes in the country, takes you through the Val Passiria. The tour inspires with different landscape impressions. The high alpine scenery of the Stubai Alps, the Texel Group and the white shining glaciers on the main Alpine ridge make another hike to a very special experience.
Starting point of your hike is the so-called Römerkehre, the uppermost bend of the Jaufenpass road on the side of Val Passiria (approx. 1,950 m). We recommend leaving the car at the hotel and taking the bus to the starting point. From here take path no. 12A westwards to the Flecknerhütte (2,100 m). The trail continues up to the Glaitner Joch (2,390 m), where the view includes the Ötztaler, Stubaier, Zillertaler and Sarntaler Alps. Here you are already at the highest point of the hike. The path continues to the Übelsee and from there it goes from path no. 15 to the Hochalm (2,174 m). After a refreshment on one of the alpine pastures we continue via the farms of Eggen to the church of Stuls (1,315 m). End of the hike is the village Stuls in Hinterpasseier, from where we can take the bus back to St. Leonhard.
